The Miktimb Farmers Group is made up of approximately 45 smallholder farmers from Muglamp village, nestled in the Western Highlands Province just north of Mount Hagen. To source coffee from this group, we partner with Rexson “Rex” Rabuni, who purchases ripe cherry directly from the farmers and processes it at his central yard in Kenta just a short distance from the Mt. Hagen airport.
Rex pays cash at the farmgate and goes a step further by offering a per-kilogram bonus at the end of the season. This added incentive encourages farmers to deliver high volumes of top-quality cherry. Together, Rex and the Miktimb group are committed to producing exceptional coffee, processing it with care and precision according to Crop to Cup standards.
One standout aspect of their approach is the slow drying process: instead of the typical 3–5 day drying period in PNG, Rex’s team extends it to 10–15 days, primarily under shade. Moisture meters and temperature guns are used throughout to carefully monitor the drying process. This attention to detail has paid off literally. Miktimb’s coffee has consistently earned recognition and per-pound bonuses due to cup quality that surpasses many other PNG suppliers.
Rex brings unmatched energy and experience to the table, with over 15 years in the coffee industry as a plantation manager, wet mill operator, and exporter. His passion for excellence, paired with the dedication of the Miktimb farmers, is helping set a new standard for quality in Papua New Guinea.
