Alfredo Vega Romero has spent his entire life growing coffee. However, his journey into specialty coffee only began recently when he developed a keen interest in fermentation. This curiosity sparked a passion for experimenting, roasting, and cupping first with his family and neighbors, and soon with a growing community of farmers eager to explore new possibilities.
What started as a small coffee gathering soon expanded into a movement, attracting motivated producers from the region. In 2024, this collective officially joined the GCP program, marking their first-ever coffee export to the global market.
Their next step? Forming a cooperative, named "Cozoltepetl" Nahuatl for Crevices Mountain a tribute to a sacred shrine dedicated to the rain god in Nahua tradition. With deep-rooted traditions and a forward-thinking approach, Alfredo and his community are shaping the future of high-quality, sustainably grown coffee.
